The Journey Canvas is the control center for the Stages and Experiences that make up a Journey. Common Journey examples include converting unknown users to customers and acquiring more high value customers.
You will use the Journey Canvas to create, edit, and monitor an individual Journey. Navigate to Journeys and click New Journey in the top right of your screen to create a new one.
Choose an audience for your Journey
The first step in configuring a Journey is picking an audience that will be associated with the first Stage of your Journey. Select this audience by clicking the "Audience" circular blue button on the left hand side of your Journey Builder. You can choose an existing audience, or you can build a new one by clicking New audience.
Note: You will be able to change your overall audience at any time, although that may drastically affect target audiences and reporting metrics.
Lytics recommends keeping this audience as broad as possible, as there will be ample opportunity to add filters and refine your targeting through Stages and Experiences.
Each Stage represents a significant step within a Journey, as defined by a conversion event. A Journey can have as many Stages as you need. Stages contain Experiences intended to encourage users to complete the desired conversion event. To create a Stage, click Add a new Stage.
Moving through a Journey
Users move to the next Stage when they complete the selected conversion event. Journeys are always configured so that users move through your Stages from left-to-right as they complete conversion events. Keep in mind that users don't always complete conversion events in the order anticipated, which means they may end up skipping a Stage. If you want to prevent this, you can include additional logic in your conversion event definition.
And remember, users can never be in more than one Stage per Journey at a time.
The Experience drawer contains Experience templates and Experiences that aren't in a Journey. Add any of these to your Journey by dragging them into a Stage. Open the drawer by clicking the icons labeled Experience template or Experience.
If you drag an Experience that is activated into your Journey, you will need to pause it before being able to save your Journey. You can do so from the Journey Canvas by hovering over the Experience card and then clicking the Pause button.
Once you're ready to reactivate the Experience in the context of the Journey, click Resume.
Much like prioritizing Experiences within Stages, it is possible to prioritize entire Journeys. Since Journey membership is not mutually exclusive (that is, users can be in multiple journeys at a time), it is possible that a user will be eligible for two simultaneous Experiences from two different Journeys. When that happens, Lytics will take into account Journey priority when determining which Experience will be delivered. The higher on the Journey list, the higher the priority.
